A major sewer line underneath Shotwell Street in Bainbridge collapsed over the weekend, necessitating significant repairs and closing a main corridor of Bainbridge for several days. As of Monday morning, Shotwell Street was still closed between Lamar Street and Sims Street while crews worked to fill the hole.
According to a Facebook post by the City of Bainbridge, the sewer line was buried more than 20 feet underground, requiring the utility crews to outsource the repairs to a Dothan contractor who was capable of safely reaching the utility line.
According to Steve Winburn, the Public Services Director for the City of Bainbridge, weather permitting, crews hope to complete the repairs on Monday, but because the concrete beneath the asphalt needs to cure, the road will not be reopened for a couple of days.
