The City of Bainbridge has started work on the future home of Taurus USA in the Commodore Industrial Park.
The North American headquarters for one of the largest firearm manufacturers in the country will be located just off of Highway 84 West in Bainbridge on land previously owned by the Development Authority of Bainbridge and Decatur County. As part of the incentive package to recruit Taurus to Bainbridge, the City and County offered to complete an estimated $4,500,000 in self performed site and infrastructure work. This is part of the $20,000,000 provision for site prep and the construction of the building and firing range included in the recruitment package.
On Wednesday, City and County crews began the process of moving dirt, essentially kicking off the construction for one of the most anticipated economic impacts in Bainbridge’s recent history.
In April, Taurus USA announced their intentions to relocate their North American headquarters and manufacturing operations to Bainbridge, bringing with them more than 300 jobs. At the time, Governor Nathan Deal and Taurus CEO David Blenker announced that the ground breaking would take place this summer and the doors would be open by January 2020.
The Taurus Building will be 200,000 square feet, with 180,000 reserved for manufacturing and another 20,000 designated for administrative space.
Wonderful that Bainbridge has attracted such a great company. But, living on Smith Landing, I wonder how the rush hour traffic will be handled on Spring Creek Road and Dothan Road. This could pose a real traffic jam and I wonder how both the county and city plan on handling this possible problem. Are there any plans being made? I feel this should be addressed before the new plant opens. Right?
