PRESS RELEASE
Twelve players ages 7 and 8 representing the Baconton All-Stars placed second in the district baseball championship recently in Donalsonville, Georgia. The boys played a total of three games during the weekend of June 9 – 10. This age group is pitched to by one of their coaches.
Day one of District play included three games. In the first game, Baconton played Seminole All-Stars in the first game losing by seven points. The final score was 12 Seminole and 5 Baconton. The second game of the day included Irwin County All-Stars losing to Seminole All-Stars by a score of 12 to 3. The third game of the day was Baconton All-Stars against Irwin County All-Stars and though Baconton All-Stars pulled a win by one point, it was a game Baconton had to fight to come from behind even though they started off winning. The final score was 9 Baconton and 8 Irwin County.
Day two of District play in Donalsonville was Baconton playing against Seminole. Baconton started out with a 2-point lead, but at the end of the game lost by 3 points. The final score was 5 Seminole and 2 Baconton. The Baconton All-Stars came in second behind Seminole who won the District Championship. Baconton and Seminole will have the opportunity to play in state play-offs June 29 – July 1 in Cochran, GA.
Team members for Baconton All-Stars 7/8 year olds included Camden Dent, Gage Plymel, Ashton Fraser, Bryson Williams, Daniel Cruz, Grant Shiver, Mason Jones, Lane Murphy, Miller Welch, Hayden Hall, Logan Hooks, and Beau Warren. The team was coached by Head Coach Chris McGahee, Coach Kelvin Hooks, Coach Kyle Jones, and Coach Donald Welch.
The team members received a red ribbon and a trophy for the team during the recognition after the game. Head Coach Chris McGahee said, “I am looking forward to these young men continuing to prove not just to others, but themselves, that this is where they belong.”
