A window was busted, an office trashed and a safe was stolen when a Shotwell Street business was burglarized Saturday afternoon.
According to the Bainbridge Public Safety Incident Report, the police were called to the Clenney Insurance Agency on Shotwell Street Saturday afternoon around 7:00 p.m. in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, BPS Officer Davina Thomas found the front glass door shattered and a brick laying just inside. While waiting for backup, an employee arrived and told Thomas that he was at the office earlier in the day and when he left, there was no damage to the building. The employee also advised that the building was shared by Coldwell Banker Brock Realty.
Thomas called for backup to secure the scene and once BPS Officer Joshua Glover arrived, the pair made entry. Inside, the officers found a closet open with two safes damaged – both missing the keypad and handle. Across the room, a teller style window was busted.
As more employees were contacted, Officers asked if anything else was missing. One employee stated that a black fireproof safe was missing from another office. Inside the missing safe was $1712.93 in checks and $720.36 in cash.
Investigator Chip Nix arrived on scene and began a more thorough examination of the crime scene. The brick used to bust the front door was determined to be from the adjacent building’s gutter base. Near the broken gutter base, Investigators found footprints and drag marks in the dirt. Following the trail of clues, BPS was able to locate the stolen safe, busted open and empty.
At this time, Bainbridge Public Safety has a suspect they believe could be responsible that they are currently holding on unrelated charges. Anyone with any additional information should contact Investigator Chip Nix at 229-248-2008.
