Bainbridge Man Wins Angler of the Year, Bass Boat and New Truck

Bainbridge angler Matt Baty won National Angler of the Year for the Ram sponsored AFT National Championship by American Bass Anglers on Lake Eufaula this past weekend.

Baty placed second in this weekend’s tournament.  That, coupled with his previous 2016 tournament achievements gave him the points he needed to win Angler of the Year honors.  This accomplishment won Baty a brand new 21′ Triton Bass Boat and a new truck.

“I placed 2nd in the tournament and was the highest finishing AOY and was awarded a 2016 21′ Triton TRX boat and a 2 year lease on a Dodge Ram of my choice valued at 50k dollars. This is truly a blessing that still hasn’t fully “sank in” and a testament that if you chase your dreams and don’t give up that you can achieve them!!!!” — Matt Baty (Facebook)

The tournament featured 300 anglers from around the country and, after day 1, Baty was in 27th place.  A good showing on day 2 placed him inside the top ten (8th place) and a 19lb 11oz bag on the final day propelled him into second place for the tournament and Angler of the Year.

Baty is a lifelong resident of Bainbridge and Decatur County and is Owner/Operator of Grassy Cutz, a local landscaping company.  On Monday morning, after winning the biggest achievement of his life, Baty was set to get back to work.

“Had a BIG weekend winning around 115k in merchandise. (Wew! Still can’t believe!) But it’s back to work this morning. Take it from someone who knows – fishing doesn’t pay the bills! My loyal customers to Grassy Cutz are what gets the bills paid at the Baty house. Grassy Cutz has now been in business for over 10 years and I just want to say a big THANK YOU to ALL of my customers. You also played a big part in my success last week. We will continue to make your yard look awesome and as always if you need anything don’t hesitate to ask!” — Matt Baty (Facebook)
