Traffic on the Bainbridge Bypass will be affected for the next few months as the Georgia Department of Transportation works on the Flint River Bridge. According to officials with the DOT, construction will begin this weekend and will include improvements to the sides, painting, and underneath. While crews are working, one lane will remain open in both the north and south bound lanes, however, as with any work site, caution must be observed.
During the work week, construction work will be restricted to between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to allow for minimum traffic disruption for morning commuters and school buses. On the weekends, there will be no restrictions for construction hours.
At some point (most likely sometime in November), the bridge will be closed completely for the final phases of repair and traffic will be re-routed through town.
