Whigham businessman Eric Cohen has been nominated to the prestigious UGA Alumni 40 under 40 list for 2016.
Mr. Cohen, a lifelong southwest Georgia resident, is a local businessman with national interests in the Pecan industry. He and his brother, Rob, own and operate several businesses in southwest Georgia, including Pecan Ridge Plantation, which specifically markets Pecan Oil and Pecan Truffles.
According to their website, “Pecan truffles (Tuber lyonii) are actually mushrooms that grow just underneath the ground along the roots of pecan trees. Truffle season is from late July through November. Mainly used by chefs in pasta dishes and meat dishes, Pecan Ridge truffles have been featured in high-end restaurants in Georgia, such as Liam’s in Thomasville and The Spence in Atlanta, and have been used in upscale restaurants in other states as well. Many individuals with discriminating culinary interest also enjoy using pecan truffles for their own personal cooking experiences.”
Among many awards and recognitions, their Pecan Ridge Plantation Pecan Oil was recently named the “Best Oil in the 2016 Southern Living Food Awards” and their Pecan Ridge Truffles were recently featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Eric Cohen is happily married to his wife, Mollie, and they have two children, Bradley and Elizabeth. Part of the pecan operation at Pecan Ridge Plantation includes Pecan Truffle Hunts with the family dog, Tate. The idea actually started as a way to get the kids involved in the family operation.
Eric and his family also love the experience of finding truffles with Tate. Eric started this new adventure as a project for his two young children to learn how to work hard and learn responsibility. During truffle hunts, his family enjoys meeting new people and sharing the amazing experience of how Tate is able to find tiny pecan truffles in a huge pecan orchard. — Pecan Ridge Plantation’s website
