Details from Monday’s Log Truck Accident

Sowegalive.com has learned the details of an accident involving a logging truck on Highway 253 North in Decatur County Monday afternoon.

According to Georgia State Patrol TFC Snider:

A loaded tractor trailer was traveling south on Highway 253 in Decatur county when the vehicle failed to maintain its lane and crossed into the northbound lane of 253. The truck then over-corrected and lost control rolling onto its left side. While the vehicle was sliding and overturning the load began to spill, with the truck sliding approximately 200 feet before coming to rest blocking all lanes of travel. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident. According to the State Patrol, the driver of the vehicle sustained head injuries and was extricated from the truck. He was then life flighted to Tallahassee Memorial in critical condition.

Decatur County Sheriff’s office, Decatur County Fire and Rescue and the MCCD (Motor Carrier Compliance Division) all responded to the scene. Georgia State Patrol was dispatched to investigate the accident at 1:20 PM.  Preliminary details show that the driver worked for a company based out of Cairo, Georgia.
