Sowegalive has learned the details of a fatal traffic accident in Decatur County last Friday. According to the Georgia State Patrol report, a single vehicle crash occurred on US Highway 27 North near mile marker 30. The report states that the vehicle, a 2002 Buick Park Avenue, was registered to Anneliese Schwarting of Columbus, GA. The driver and lone occupant was 62 year old Gerald Arthur Schwarting of Columbus.
From the report:
“Vehicle #1 was traveling North on US 27/GA 1 in the first lane from the right shoulder. Vehicle #1 traveled into the East ditch approximately 380 feet before striking a tree in the East ditch with its front. The investigating Trooper was unable to locate any actions of the driver as far as braking or counter steering prior to crash.”
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.
