Bainbridge Bearcats win 2 at Florida Christmas tournament; Crump gets tourney honors

The Bainbridge High School boys varsity team won 2 of 3 games at the Beach Blowout Basketball tournament in Fort Walton Beach on Monday through Wednesday of this week.

santa_basketballBainbridge played Chipley (Fla.) High School in the first game on Monday and the Bearcats lost a close one, 75-71. BHS’ Tyree Crump had 34 points. Chipley High School is where Bainbridge head coach Rickey McCullough coached previously with much success.

In the second game on Tuesday, Bainbridge defeated Niceville (Fla.) 68-51. Tyree Crump had 25 points and 9 rebounds, Trevon Shaw had 12 points and Devontae Jones had 11 points and 7 rebounds.

In the third game on Tuesday, Bainbridge defeated Crestview (Fla.) 64-52. Tyree Crump had 24 points, Trevon Shaw had 15 points, and Devontae Jones had 10 points. Crump made the All-Tournament team by averaging 27.7 points per game.

All four Bainbridge High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams play at home Saturday night against Americus-Sumter, with the first game starting at 3:30 p.m.

Coach McCullough has legacy at Chipley High School, brought winning ways to Bainbridge

Coach McCullough was head basketball coach at Chipley for 25 years, he built a very successful program known throughout Florida. At the time McCullough was there, Chipley was in 3A and 4A divisions. His teams participated and competed in the state playoffs in 20 of his 25 years at Chipley.

Under Coach McCullough, the Bainbridge High School varsity boys reached the Final Four of the state basketball tournament in 2010 and 2011, and have had very successful winning seasons in several other years.
