Stormy weather continues Monday in Southwest Georgia; tornado watch issued

A line of storms moving northeast from Marianna, Fla., into Southwest Georgia caused several weather warnings Monday afternoon and most of the region was under a tornado watch through 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2.

At about 12 p.m. Eastern Time, a tornado warning was issued in Jackson County, Fla., and forecasters said the storm was moving north toward Seminole County, Georgia.

The next weather alert was broadcast shortly after 1 p.m., when a tornado warning was issued for parts of Early and Miller counties, including the towns of Damascus and Colquitt. The National Weather Service said a possible tornado had been seen on radar near Donalsonville, GA, moving northeast at 40 miles per hour. The alert said the storm was capable of producing hail and damaging winds.

The storm reached Colquitt, where a Georgia State Patrol post is located, by about 1:25 p.m. A citizen’s unofficial weather report on Twitter said there was a possible tornado touchdown on Cooktown Road in Miller County.

A separate tornado warning was issued for Dougherty, Terrell and Calhoun counties at 1 p.m., followed by another warning in Lee County. The National Weather Service said there was a possible tornado located between Smithville and Leesburg, headed northeast at 25 miles per hour.

Also around 1:15 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch, which means conditions were favorable for the formation of tornadoes, through 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2.
