Southern Football Report: High School games tonight

Tonight there are a few really good games in southwest Georgia & here are the three that you can hear on our family of radio stations:

WBGE-FM, Live 101.9 – Worth County Rams at (5) Bainbridge Bearcats – This Bearcat team has bearcat_logo_BIGbeen compared to the 1986 team a lot this season mainly because that team also began the season on a lengthy winning streak. The ’86 Cats reached 7-0 before finished this season on a 1-3 mark for an 8-3 overall record which included a 19-7 loss at Thomasville in the Region semifinal. The 2015 Bearcats are looking to reach 7-0 tonight as well but are looking to avoid the sluggish finish. The Worth County Rams, the Region 1-AAAA Division B champions, pay a visit to Centennial Field tonight after running all over Bainbridge last season in Sylvester. Since opening the season 0-2 against Fitzgerald & Lee County, two pretty solid opponents, the Rams have looked very good with three straight wins. The Bearcat defense is much improved from last season where Worth County ran all over them in Sylvester & I don’t foresee the Rams getting much at all tonight against the Bearcats.

WGMK-FM, Rockin 106.3 – Seminole County Indians at (10) Brooks County Trojans – It’s been a prettySeminole County Indians Helmet rough season thus far for the Indians and they need a win badly if they want to stay in the playoff hunt in Region 1-AA but they will be fighting an uphill battle in Quitman, Georgia, against the 10th-ranked Brooks County Trojans. Historically, the Trojans have had Seminole County’s number especially defensively. Since 1968, Seminole County has only scored more than 20 points four times and have lost 14 of the 23 meetings including the last five. Last week Brooks County was taken to the wire by Berrien on four fumbles and an interception. They needed a touchdown run late in the 4th quarter to get out of Nashville with the win. Seminole County has the athletes to compete with Brooks County but they will have to play way above their heads on the road where they are 0-2 already this season.

WQLI-FM, Q 92.3 – Thomasville Bulldogs at Pelham Hornets – The Hornets began the season 3-0 but thenPelham Hornets ran into a buzzsaw back-to-back stretch of the Colquitt County Packers and the Brooks County Trojans where they went 0-2 and not are in a small 0-1 hole in the Region 1-AA. Thomasville is in a similar but inverted situation where they opened the season with four really good teams (West Laurens, Valdosta, Baldwin & a half against Cairo) but have played much better since region play began. Pelham is a much better football team in 2015 under first year head coach Dondrial Pinkins and I expect them to bounce back at home this Friday night after two lopsided losses to good teams. History will not be on their side however as the Hornets have never won a game against the Thomasville Bulldogs. I didn’t believe it when I read it either and when looking at the results of those games, the Bulldogs have shutout the Hornets an unbelievable 12 of the 20 times. I think the Hornets make history tonight at the Hornet’s Nest.

OTHER GAMES

Berrien Rebels at Early County Bobcats – The Rebels are 1-4 on the season but almost pulled the upset of Brooks County last week in Nashville when the Trojans fell ill with the turnover bug. Early County won’t turn the ball over as much this week and a win puts them in a great position to make the playoffs in 2015 with a 2-1 record heading into the last three weeks of the season.

Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets at Albany Indians – It’s been a tough season for the Albany Indians who are winless on the year and have been on the wrong end of some lopsided scores. That’s not the recipe for success against a Yellow Jackets team who has had really no problem scoring in bunches on just about every opponent so far this season.

Crisp County Cougars at Cairo Syrupmakers – One win and three losses is not where the Syrupmakers and first year head coach Steve Devoursney wanted to be heading into the month of October and Crisp County is in a similar boat but have won two of their last three. Both of these teams need a region win in the worst way so I wouldn’t be surprised if each team pulls out all the stops in order to win.

Colquitt County Packers at Lee County Trojans – Two undefeated teams will square off in Leesburg tonight & both teams got big going-away region wins last week. The reigning state champion Packers will be playing just their second true away game of the season and Lee County looked very good last week against Tift County. The winner of this game will be in the driver’s seat in Region 1-AAAAAA.
