First National Bank of Decatur County CEO Brad Barber was on the “Jesus and Jammin'” radio show Thursday morning to make a surprise announcement of “Bearcat Bucks,” the bank’s way of showing extra support for the Bainbridge High School football team.

Barber said every time the Bainbridge Bearcats score a touchdown this season, First National Bank of Decatur County will donate $50 to the Bearcat Touchdown Club, the football boosters organization. To kick the season off, Barber presented Bainbridge High School head football coach Jeff Littleton with a check for $300 on Jesus and Jammin’. The $300 represents the six touchdowns the Bearcats scored in a scrimmage against the Pelham High School Hornets on August 21.

Coach Littleton, who plans to stop by and talk with Jesus and Jammin’ co-hosts Kevin Dowdy and Jay Palmer every Thursday, thanked Barber for the bank’s generous support of the Bearcat Boosters. Littleton said the Bearcat Touchdown Club helps the football team with a lot of additional expenses that aren’t covered by the Board of Education for budget reasons. The coach said he also appreciated the support of the community at large in rooting for the Bearcats, noting that he really liked the new purple Bearcats flags that have been put up by the City of Bainbridge along Shotwell Street.

The Bainbridge Bearcats begin their 2015 season on Friday night at Centennial Field in Bainbridge against the Early County Bobcats. Littleton said the annual rivalry game between the two teams is always a close one, even though Early County has a smaller high school. The coach said his players were up for the challenge.

“We really feel like the players have grown to trust the coaches and believe in each other,” Littleton said. “The Bearcats have been putting in a lot of work in the off-season, both in the weight room and at practice.”
