There aren’t many things in college football as recognizable as the rising spear on a gold helmet which is why the Florida State Seminoles helmet is number three on our helmet countdown. This helmet has been through a recent transformation but it was long overdue. Although, tampering with the shade of gold on the helmet was a massive public relations nightmare, eventually the university and Nike were able to get back on the same page with the overall look of the helmet. In the end we got a perfect blend of the old style with a modern look.
When Florida State unveiled their new uniforms prior to the 2014 season, they did also unveil a garnet helmet which obviously doesn’t have the same allure of it’s gold brother. It doesn’t look terrible but it just doesn’t work for the Noles. One minor change for the upcoming season which I’m sorry to see go honestly, is the crossing spears on the back of the helmet. RIP.
