A friendly pig has some new digs at the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society.

Barbie, as she is known at the Bainbridge Animal Shelter, is a full-grown pig who was found wandering in a residential neighborhood on the July 4 weekend.

Barbie rolled around in flower beds and ate apples the neighbors brought her, said Ashley White with the Humane Society.

After the pig continued to hang around, an animal control officer came to pick her up and took her to the animal shelter.

After a five-day waiting period to see if its owners showed up, Barbie the pig is now up for adoption to anyone willing to care for her.

“She’s a little timid at first, but she warms up to people,” White said. “She really likes getting treats brought to her in her pen and she’s already dug out some muddy spots for her to lay in.”
