Decatur County commissioners appoint interim county administrator

Decatur County commissioners appointed Bainbridge CPA Perry L. Henry as the county’s interim county administrator on Tuesday night.

Outgoing administrator Gary Breedlove’s last day will be Thursday, April 30.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Dennis Brinson emphasized Henry’s appointment would only be temporary, while county commissioners search for a permanent administrator.

Applications for the position of Decatur County administrator are being accepted through April 30. Brinson said about 25 applications have been received as of Tuesday night. Any time someone submits an application, a copy is emailed to each commissioner.

Henry is a local accountant whose firm has been preparing audits for Decatur County government in recent years.

In Commissioner Brinson’s view, that experience should make Henry a good fit for the transition period.

Breedlove agreed, saying Henry was an excellent choice.

“He knows Decatur County and Decatur County knows him,” Breedlove said.

With Bronson’s assent, Breedlove said he would set up an introductory meeting between Henry and a group of employees from various county departments on Friday morning.
