On Bainbridge Soccer Senior night, this past Tuesday at Centennial field, the Bainbridge High School Varsity Soccer teams won in identical and impressive style, as both the girls and boys squads defeated Brooks County 6-0.
In the girls contest Bainbridge scored three goals in each half to register a 6-0 victory over the visiting Brooks County Lady Trojans.
Bainbridge took an early 1-0 lead, in the 9th minute, as Senior Midfielder Jennifer Becerra received a pass at midfield from teammate Sophomore Midfielder Summer Boyd and split the Lady Trojan defense scoring on a breakaway from 6 yards out.
The Lady Bearcats increased the lead four minutes later as Bainbridge Forward Derrical Williams scored from the left side, finishing off a nice one two combination passing with Becerra to make the score 2-0.
In the 18th minute Junior Midfielder Amber Senior had a one touch shot for a score getting an assist from teammate Freshman Forward Paige Stegall to give Bainbridge a 3-0 halftime lead.
Senior Defender Lilly Gomez scored the Bainbridge fourth goal in the 43rd minute of the second half to push the score to 4-0. Senior Defender Rebecca Mulkey flipped a pass to Gomez who beat a Lady Trojan and then slid a shot just past the onrushing Brooks County Goal Keeper.
Two minutes later Mulkey scored on a crossing shot to the left side of the Goal, with Gomez picking up the assist as Bainbridge bolted to a 5-0 lead.
The final score of the game came in the 52nd minute as Senior defender Honorina Barrios finished off a 10 yard shot in the Center following a well placed pass by Becerra.
Brooks County attempted a penalty kick on the final play of the game but Mulkey, who substitutedin at Goal Keeper, came up with a save to perserve the shutout.
The win gives Bainbridge an overall record of 8-6 on the season.
In the boys contest Bainbridge’s first two goals came as results of throw ins to take a 2-0 lead.
Bearcat Junior Forward Jaycee Castro scored the First goal, in the 5th minute, as he received a throw in from Freshman Forward Leroy Rivera and raced down the right side, and then converted a 12 yard shot to give Bainbridge a 1-0 lead.
The second goal came as a result of a mishandled ball in the Brooks County Penalty area. Castro lofted a long throw into the penalty area towards the Trojan Goal, the Brooks County Goal Keeper scrambled and made a play on the ball, but inadvertently deflected it backwards where an alert Rivera quickly touched a shot into the goal, inches away from the goalline in the 7th minute.
Castro scored the third goal of the contest on a volley shot in the 21st minute, with Rivera again picking up the assist to give Bainbridge a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The Bearcats fourth goal was scored in the 27th minute, on a 12 yard shot by Sophomore Midfielder Misael Rodriguez.
Bainbridge Sophomore Midfelder Lerone Broadnax scored the next Bearcat goal in the 38th minute, as he received a pass from Senior Midfielder Michael Bush, beat a defender and calmly redirected it with an eight yard shot to the right side of the goal.
The sixth goal and final goal on the night came in the 40th minute, as Bearcat Senior Defender Alex Ward headed in a shot from six yards out. The shot was made following a well placed lofted drop pass from Junior Midfielder Jesus Contrares to give Bainbridge a 6-0 lead.
Throughout the second half a majority of Bainbridge’s reserve players played but despite many attacks, were unsuccessful in converting in another goal.
The win improved Bainbridge’s overall record at 10-4 on the season.
Both varsity teams were scheduled to host Worth County in a pair of region games Friday night.
