John Mucci, an officer with the Pelham, Ga., Police Department, passed away Friday night. WALB-TV reported.

Mucci had reportedly been in and out of the hospital over the last year, dealing with health issues. Mucci had complained of stomach pain earlier in the week before he died, Pelham Assistant Chief of Police Rod Williams said.

Mucci was formerly a police officer jn Warwick, GA., before recently joining the Pelham Police Department.

Mucci is survived by a wife, Kacie, a daughter and a 3-month-old son.

An account has been set up to help the Mucci family pay for the late officer’s medical bills and funeral costs.

Donations are being collected for the widow of Pelham Police Officer John A. Mucci. Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Pelham Police Investigator Adam Lamb, 294-6001, 6002 or 6003, or stop by the office at 410 Mize Street, NW, Pelham, GA.

From the Pelham Police Department Facebook page:

John A. Mucci was a dedicated law professional who never lost his positive attitude. Well liked by his co-workers as well as the public, he made the extra effort to be helpful to everyone. His laugh was infectious and his smile was one of those things we came to take for granted.
