Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity sixth-inning burst enough to top Monroe, 7-1

Bainbridge High School’s varsity beat Monroe 7-1 in seven innings on Monday at Bearcat Field after a six-run explosion in the sixth inning.

The Bearcats scored in the sixth on an error, an RBI single by Dustin Strickland, an error, a groundout by Carson Inlow, and a two-run single by Ty Varnum.

Tyler Storey helped Bainbridge pull ahead for the duration in the sixth inning. He had two stolen bases on the day.

BHS starting pitcher Cayden McQuaig pitched five solid innings, only allowing one run and one hit. McQuaig notched eight strikeouts and only walked one.

Varnum got the win in relief for Bainbridge, pitching two innings and allowing no runs.

Monroe’s West was charged with the loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

The bottom of the second saw Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity take an early lead, 1-0. Monroe mustered its only run in the top of the fifth.

Bainbridge was taking on Worth County in Sylvester on Wednesday night; their next game is at home on Friday vs. Americus-Sumter.

Bainbridge Bearcats JV lost despite Dustin Hodge’s leadership from both the mound and the plate.

Hodge got on base three times in the game for Bainbridge’s JV team. He doubled in the first inning.

Hodge was a workhorse on the hill for Bainbridge Bearcats JV. Hodge pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, eight hits and one walk, while striking out five.

Hodge took the loss for Bainbridge Bearcats JV.

TCC didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the fourth inning when it scored on an RBI single by #22.

Thomasville Middle School 6, Bainbridge Middle School 2

The Bainbridge Middle Shcool Bearcats fell to Thomasville 6-2 at Thomasville.

Bradshaw got the win for Thomasville. He allowed two runs over seven innings. Bradshaw struck out seven, walked none and gave up three hits.

Thomasville was sparked by Smith and Johnson, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs.

Caleb Varnum was the losing pitcher for the Bearcats. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and struck out two.

Bainbridge Middle School jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Bainbridgegot things going when Sam Boutwell doubled. A stolen base then moved Boutwell from second to third. Boutwell then stole home.

It didn’t take long for Thomasville to answer, as it scored two runs of its own in the first. Thomasville scored on an RBI single by Smith and a passed ball.

Thomasville never trailed after scoring three runs in the fifth on a two-run double by Bradshaw and an RBI single by Eason.
