Bainbridge Middle School baseball survives Baconton 6-4 thanks to Sam Boutwell’s late-game heroics

Sam Boutwell drove in the go-ahead run to give Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats the lead in the sixth inning, as BMS hung on to beat Baconton 6-4 on Thursday.

Bearcat Ellis Faircloth walked to get on base in the sixth. He then went from second to third on a passed ball.

Bainbridge was led by a flawless day at the dish by Randy Fillingame, who went 2-2 against Baconton’s pitching. Fillingame singled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

BMS’ Caleb Varnum pitched five innings, striking out four Baconton batters and only allowing one walk.

Boutwell had an impressive outing in relief against Baconton’s lineup. Boutwell held Baconton hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

In the bottom of the first, Bainbridge Middle School grabbed the early lead, 1-0.

The Bearcats pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the sixth. In the third, Brad Mitchell hit a two-RBI double, scoring Wesley Morrow and Miles Holloway.

After posting two runs in the fourth, Baconton again scored two in the fifth. In the fourth, Baconton scored on a groundout by Sam Pinson.
