The Bainbridge High School girls varsity soccer team has gotten their season underway and, prior to Friday’s game against Thomasville, had a 2-1 overall record along with a 1-0 record in region 1-4A play.
In the season opener, versus Northview High School of Dothan Alabama, the Lady Cats were defeated 4-0 by the homestanding Lady Cougars. Bainbridge pressured throughout the contest, but the Lady Cougars were able to get behind the defense and scored two goals in each half of the victory.
Bainbridge vs. Americus-Sumter
In their second game Bainbridge soundly defeated Americus Sumter at Centennial field 7-0 and although a region opponent the game was treated as a non region contest.
Bainbridge Senior Midfielder Jennifer Becerra got behind the Lady Panther defense, in the 5thminute, and scored on a shot in the center from 6 yards out. The score was wet up following a long pass from Sophomore Midfielder Summer Boyd to Sophomore Forward Ilean Marquez who then quickly passed to Becerra running down the left side to set up the scoring shot.

In the 7th minute, Boyd scored on a 22 yard crossing shot to the left side of the goal, assisted by Senior Midfielder Rebecca Mulkey, who had dropped the ball back from the penalty area to her teamate.
The Lady Cats scored three more goals in the first half to take a 5-0 halftime lead. In the 27th minute Mulkey scored, following a steal by Freshman Forward Paige Stegall in the lady Panther Penalty area, who passed the ball up for a crossing shot to the left post of the goa1, from 5 yards out. The fourth Bainbridge goal came in the 33rd minute Stegall’s shot was pressured into the waiting foot of Becerra who scored the goal on a shot from ten yards out. The final goal of the half came in the 38th minute as Becerra intercepted a Lady Panther goal kick and scored on a 21 yard shot outside the penalty area.
In the second half Bainbridge scored goals in the 64th and 67th minute for the final goals of the contest. Bainbridge Junior Midfielder Derrical Williams pressured the Americus-Sumter Goalkeeper’s attempt at a save that sent the ball to the right in which Stegall and Marquez struck similtaniously for the 6th goal from six yards out.
The final goal of the game was scored by Mulkey as she received a drop pass from Marquez, and calmly weaved her way into the Lady Panther Penalty area and struck the back of the nets from 12 yards out.
Bainbridge vs. Monroe
The Lady Cats picked up their first region win on the season in a 7-0 victory Tuesday night at Monroe High School.
Bainbridge Midfielder Mulkey collected the first two goals of the game by twice intercepting Lady Tornadoe passes and scoring from 22 yards out, in the 17th minute, and lofting another from 18 yards to the right post in the 18th minute giving the Lady Cats a 2-0 lead.

Bainbridge Sophomore Midfielder Elizabeth Brinson scored a goal on a penalty kick to the left side in the 28th minute to give Bainbridge a 5-0 halftime lead.
The final two goals of the contest occurred in the 49th and 70th minute on goals by Marquez and Mulkey to give each a hat trick on the night. Sophomore midfielder Aida Diaz-Gonzalez and Brinson recorded the assists for the second half goals to give Bainbridge a 7-0 victory.
The girls have really started to progress and we have seen improvement in each contest. Defenders Lilly Gomez, Honorina Barrios, Jasmine Taylor, Mary Mercer Reynolds, and Mulkey have helped solidify the back end and freshman goalkeeper Morgan Cannon has done well.
