Blakely death being investigated

Early County Sheriff’s investigators are looking into the suspicious death of a Blakely, Ga., man.

57-year-old Lonnie Butler was found lying on North Washington Street in Blakely last Friday.

He had suffered several injuries to his head and died Sunday at a Dothan, Ala. hospital.

Investigators are waiting to the autopsy to help them determine if Butler’s death was a homicide. (Source: WALB-TV)

Sheriff’s deputies find bodies of Atlanta couple who went missing after responding to Craigslist ad

The car belonging to a Georgia couple who disappeared after traveling to meet a man claiming to sell a classic auto has been found in a lake with two bodies inside.

The discovery was found near McRae, Ga., a small town of about 5,500 people located 34 miles south of Dublin, Ga.

On Monday afternoon, the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office posted this on their Facebook Page: Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson has confirmed that investigators have recovered the 2003 GMC Envoy owned by Mr. and Mrs. Runion. It was found submerged in a lake. Two bodies were also recovered at a separate location. However, the bodies have not been positively identified at this time. The investigation is continuing and more details will be made available as soon as they are known.

Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson says the bodies have not officially been identified and authorities have been in touch with the Runion family. He said the car was found not far from McRae.

Authorities have said 28-year-old Ronnie Adrian “Jay” Towns, of McRae, Ga., has been arrested on charges of giving false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception.

Steverson says Towns was the last person to speak with the couple by phone.
