The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Jay Powell, a Republican from Camilla, as the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.
Powell will also serve as a member on the Governmental Affairs, MARTOC, Rules, and Judiciary committees.
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Representative Jay Powell represents the citizens of District 171, which includes portions of Colquitt, Decatur, and Mitchell counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008.
In other moves, Rep. Gerald Greene, R-Cuthbert, was named to the newly created position of vice chair of Appropriations, the budget-writing committee.
