Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats running back Phillip Gamble, who is currently playing professional American football in Germany, is making a homecoming visit to Decatur County this weekend.

After excelling in multiple sports at Bainbridge High School, Gamble went on to play safety and linebacker for the Marshall University Thundering Herd. After getting his degree, Gamble went on to play for a team that traveled around the world promoting American football. For the past few years, Phillip has been one of the stars of the Bielefeld, Germany, Bulldogs and helped lead them to a division championship.

Phillip Gamble, a pro football star in Germany who is originally from Bainbridge, will be our special guest on the Jesus and Jammin’ morning radio show, which can be heard on Live 101.9 FM and all of our Flint Media stations, on Friday morning at approximately 7:45 a.m. to 8 a.m.

In the offseason, Gamble has also held an interesting job teaching English as a second language to German students.

Now, Phillip and his younger brother, Darryl Gamble (who was a star linebacker for the Georgia Bulldogs and played a season in the NFL) are teaming up for a new American football squad in Germany, where the sport is becoming more popular every year.

Phillip Gamble will speak to students at the new Bainbridge High School, which he has never been to since it opened in 2009. Smart, talented but still humble, Gamble said he will be at the Bainbridge High School basketball games on Friday night.

“I’ll be signing autographs and taking pictures with kids and whoever else wants one,” Gamble said. “It’s going to be good to see all my South Georgia friends and family.”
