19 fatalities reported during Thanksgiving travel period

Nineteen people died in auto accidents across Georgia during the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, which ran from Wednesday through Sunday evening.

Georgia State Patrol posts in Cuthbert, Douglas, Monroe, Statesboro, Thomasville, Toccoa, Washington, Griffin and Brunswick each reported a fatal accident. The Atlanta Police Department also investigated a fatal crash.

61-year-old John Gibson of Perry, Florida, died early Friday morning when his pickup truck crossed into the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 27 near Cuthbert and collided head-on with a semi-trailer truck, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

30-year-old Stetson Blake Beasley of Baconton, Ga., was killed early Thursday morning in Colquitt County when a pickup truck he was a passenger in ran off Georgia Highway 37 and struck a tree, GSP reported.
