Willie Leroy Wimberly, 49, of Bainbridge, who has been charged by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office with murder in connection with the shooting death of Chris Strickland on July 29, has been released from the hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., according to the Leon County, Fla., Sheriff’s Office.

Wimberly had been undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the altercation that led to Strickland’s death.

Captain Gale Bowyer of the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office said Wimberly, Chris Strickland and his brother Josh  had an argument while at Josh Strickland’s residence, located in a mobile home park near the intersection of Whigham Dairy Road and Old Whigham Road just outside Bainbridge city limits.

Captain Bowyer said he believed that Christopher Strickland was shot first, and then as Josh Strickland and Wimberly continued to struggle, the gun went off again and injured Wimberly.

Wimberly is currently being held at the Leon County, Fla., Jail awaiting extradition back to Georgia.
