PLEASE SEE OUR UPDATED POST ON TUESDAY’S MEETING
Standing room only tonight at the Decatur County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night, the room was filled 45 minutes before the meeting started at 7 p.m. Presumably some of those present are waiting to hear commissioners discuss whether or not to pay legal expenses associated with county employees involved in a federal grand jury investigation. We will provide updates as we can on our Facebook page and after the meeting, look for a full report on sowegalive.com.
Update at 8 p.m. Tuesday:
Sheriff Wiley Griffin said he will not ask Decatur to pay Decatur County Commissioners to pay legal expenses for his son, Wiley Griffin IV, at this time. He said he was confident the four current and former Sheriff’s deputies indicted by a federal grand jury will be exonerated after the legal proceedings are complete.
Decatur County Commissioners went into closed session at 7:52 p.m. to discuss litigation, real estate and personnel. We will let you know when closed session ends and if commissioners take any action once the open meeting resumes.
UPDATE: County Commissioners still behind closed doors at 9:10 p.m. Sheriff Griffin just thanked supporters and said he’s leaving to go to Gainesville, Ga., for a conference.
