The month of July has arrived which means that fireworks, barbeques & swimming pools are on the minds of many people around Southwest Georgia. But July means that visions of out routes, pad days and wind sprints fill the heads of people like me who live, breathe and eat high school and college football, because July means the most wonderful time of the year is almost upon us.
Flint Media will again provide a full slate of high school and college football coverage for the people out there like me, who can never get enough from the gridiron, on our family of stations this Fall. Between our family of stations (Live 101.9, Rockin 106.3, Q92.3 & 99.3FM Classic Hits Radio), we will broadcast 35 regular season high school football games.
The Bainbridge Bearcats are heading into their second season with Jeff Littleton at the helm after a 5-6 2013 campaign and we are proud to say that every Bearcat football game will be carried on Live 101.9 FM. Coach Littleton and the Bearcats were reclassified from AAAAA down to Region 1-AAAA with regular rivals like Thomas County Central & Cairo as well as all of the Albany schools (Albany, Dougherty, Monroe & Westover).
Worth County, Americus-Sumter & Crisp County, the Bearcats’ longest road trip, round out the new Region alignment and with the new 10-team region, the Bearcats could get a taste of a Region Championship Game on November 7th.
Rockin 106.3 FM will carry a Game of the Week rotation between the Early County Bobcats, Miller County Pirates & Seminole County Indians. Seminole County moving up a classification to Region 1-AA will certainly build some excitement when the Indians and Bobcats meet on October 3rd.
The Miller County Pirates look to be the class of Region 1-A in 2014 and will be doing so with a first time head coach in Jeremy Rayburn. The Pirates do have early season non-region back-to-back road games at Pelham and Seminole County which will be a good barometer on where the Pirates are heading into their region schedule.
Head Coach Trey Woolf heads into his 14th season with the Bobcats and returns with a solid core of returning players while getting Fitzgerald & Brooks County in Blakely.
We also have a Game of the Week rotation on Q92.3 between the Mitchell County Eagles, Pelham Hornets and Westwood Wildcats. There are always teams that just don’t like each other and Mitchell County and Pelham are two teams that embody just that. These two teams will meet for the 45th time on September 5th and there will surely be some fireworks as there always are when these two teams share the same football field.
The Hornets are in their 3rd season in Region 1-AA and improved from 1-9 in 2012 to 4-6 in 2013 and are looking to keep climbing in the Region standings. Mitchell County finished the season 6-5 with two heartbreaking losses to Seminole County and Hawkinsville in the playoffs to close out the season.
Our third team on Q92.3 is the Westwood Wildcats who are two years removed from repeating as state champions in 2010 & 2011 and will be eager to get back to the top of the AAA classification in GISA. They will have to do it on the road in 2014 with tough road games at Valwood and Terrell Academy.
Yes, it is safe to say that 2014 will be an exciting year in high school football in southwest Georgia and Flint Media will be here to bring you every second of all the action. But high school isn’t where it ends as Live 101.9 is your home of the reigning National Champion Florida State Seminoles, as always Rockin 106.3 will carry the Georgia Bulldogs, Q92.3 will bring you all of the action from Atlanta with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and finally, 99.3FM will bring you all the action from reigning SEC Champions, The Auburn Tigers.
