A Bainbridge man was arrested Monday, May 19 after detectives found a quantity of marijuana in plastic baggies on his person.
On Monday afternoon, Captain Mark Esquivel of Bainbridge Public Safety received information that a man was walking around town with illegal drugs on his person. Captain Esquivel and fellow officers Major Robert Humphrey and investigators Chip Nix and Ryan Deen, searched for the suspect and found him walking with another person at the intersection of Monroe and Evans Street, south of downtown Bainbridge.
Officers asked the suspect, later identified as Derrick Deshaun Wright, 26, of 826 Russ St., Bainbridge, to empty his pockets. Wright pulled a Newport cigarette pack out of his left pants pocket, and Investigator Deen asked what was inside the cigarette point. Wright then pushed the cigarette pack back in his pocket and would not take his hands out of his pocket.
At that time, Major Humphrey removed Wright’s hand from his pocket and removed the cigarette pack, which was found to contain 13 plastic baggies of suspected marijuana and one empty baggie.
