The City of Bainbridge Public Works crews worked Monday morning to remove the asphalt on West Street in downtown Bainbridge, exposing historic brick streets underneath.

The section of West Street that was uncovered stretches one city block in downtown Bainbridge from Water to Broughton Streets.  The newest brick street portion in downtown connects to existing exposed brick on Water Street that stretches from Crawford Street to Broad Street and from Broad to Clay Streets.  Broad Street will remain paved with asphalt because it is a state route and maintained by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
