Roberto Aguayo is named ACC Specialist of the Week for third time this season
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It won’t get any easier for No. 1 Florida State following a 20-17 win over Boston College last weekend as rival Florida looms this Saturday.
The Seminoles (11-0) were back at practice on Monday at the Albert J. Dunlap Indoor Practice Facility, preparing indoors as it rained outside for a Gator team (6-4) that will come to Doak Campbell Stadium with emotions high. Saturday will mark Florida coach Will Muschamp’s final game with the team.
“I think emotion always counts, but I think at the end of the day, execution wins,” Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I think emotion is going to be critical. Hopefully we’ll be emotional. To play Florida, our kids will be high. Our kids will be excited. I think you’ll see two teams that are emotionally and physically ready to play, and then who can go out and execute and win the battles in the physical and mental execution will be the team that wins.”
Florida State will be looking to complete its second straight undefeated regular season, while improving Fisher’s record against the Gators to 4-1. The Seminoles have won 27 straight games with their last loss coming exactly two years ago – to Florida on Nov. 24, 2012.
Fisher attributes the program’s sustained success to the players and coaches, but also the community support.
“We’ve been very fortunate to have a tremendous amount of great coaches here, tremendous amount of great players, even administrators and helpers and there’s all the support,” Fisher said. “…All the facets of everyone who touches them in academics and the school and the whole organization, the whole atmosphere, Tallahassee in general, the stadium, the fans, all that goes into what we’re doing and the success we’re having. It becomes a culture and a way of life, and I thank everyone that has helped us get along the way, but hey, don’t sit back and rest on our laurels because I’m going to keep after them. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Aguayo Captures Third ACC Specialist of the Week Award this Season
Redshirt sophomore kicker Roberto Aguayo was named the ACC Specialist of the Week for the second week in a row and third time this season on Monday.
The Mascotte, Fla., native drilled a 26-yard game-winning field goal with three seconds left to lift Florida State past Boston College, 20-17, on Saturday night.
Aguayo finished the game with eight points, by making 2-of-3 field goal attempts and both extra point attempts.
Last week, Aguayo went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and made a career-long 53-yarder to finish with 12 points in the Seminoles’ 30-26 comeback victory at Miami.
The 2013 Lou Groza Placekicker of the Year Award winner has made 42 of 45 career field goal attempts and all 140 of his career extra point attempts.
He has four career ACC Player of the Week honors.
