A Bainbridge woman who was sitting on a porch outside a residence on Tuesday night was injured by gunfire, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.
Sheritta Brown was sitting on the porch of 305 N. Miller Ave. with friends at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night when someone passsed by and fired six shots.
One of the bullets hit Brown’s right shoulder. BPS Officer Darren Heard arrived on the scene and used a shirt to place over Brown’s wound. Officer Heard applied pressure to stop the bleeding, found the exit wound of the bullet and then took a towel to apply pressure to the exit wound, with assistance from Officer Seth Stroup.
Gabriel LaRod Washington, 32, 306 Godwin St., Bainbridge, was arrested after witnesses identified him as a possible suspect and he was spotted walking back toward the crime scene. Washington is charged with aggravated assault.
After talking with witnesses, BPS officers stated they believe the shots were fired in retaliation for a fight between two women that had happened earlier in the day, involving Washington’s girlfriend. Brown had no involvement in the fight, according to police.
A witness said Washington had called her phone minutes before the shooting, asking who all was sitting on the front porch.
Brown was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Tallahassee, Fla., where she is reportedly recovering from surgery to repair her wounds.
