Marian S. McCormick of Pelham, GA was recently appointed by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal to the Statewide Independent Living Council.
McCormick is the principal chief of the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe. She is the counselor for the tribe’s program Muskogee Vocational Rehabilitation. McCormick earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology at Oval Bible College. She and her husband, Nealie, have two children and three grandchildren. They reside in Pelham.
The Statewide Independent Living Council is a systems advocacy and planning organization. The council works for systemic change in the areas that are the biggest barriers to people with disabilities participating fully in their communities. In itscurrent 3-year plan, the areas the council is focused on are: Accessible Housing, Healthcare, Assistive Technology, and Transportation.
