Thomas University reports record student enrollment

TU_logoOn Monday, Sept. 8, Thomas University officials announced that the private liberal arts university in Thomasville has a new enrollment record of 1,138 for fall semester.

Thomas University’s previous enrollment record was 1,124 students which was set in fall 2012. From 2007 to 2012, TU saw an increase in enrollment each year. This record enrollment is especially encouraging for TU officials when compared to the significant decreases in enrollment that other colleges and universities in the area are experiencing.

“A record number of new students entering the freshman class for 2014 and the retention of our returning students has led to a new record enrollment for Thomas University,” said Dr. Gary Bonvillian, TU President. “This is particularly gratifying in light of the continuing decline in enrollment of so many schools across the United States. This record enrollment is a direct result of the growing reputation of Thomas University as a school of first choice. Much credit goes to our faculty and staff who work so diligently on behalf of our new and returning students.”

Of the 1,138 students currently enrolled, 409 are new students for TU, and 291 are student-athletes. Both are also records for TU.

“Our largest increase is seen in the Master of Education program and Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science program,” said Dr. Jill Dennis, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing. “However, all our programs have strong enrollment. In addition to offering attractive programs for students, we have strengthened processes from application to enrollment. The Enrollment Team of Admissions, Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office along with faculty and staff across campus have worked together to create a seamless admissions and advising process for students. We are pleased that our efforts have produced record results and look forward to a great semester with all the Night Hawks!”

In addition to its 1,138 domestic students, TU also has 610 students in China as participants in its programs through partnerships with four universities in the country. Those programs are in nursing and business.
