News Release
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) May 01, 2014
In response to the thousands of families affected by the violent tornadoes that swept through the southern part of the United States earlier this week, Peanut Proud, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization of the U.S. peanut industry, is partnering with the peanut state grower organizations of Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi to donate more than 60,000 jars of peanut butter to local food banks in those areas most devastated by the storms.
Peanut butter manufactured by Kroger, American Blanching and San Filippo, in addition to a private label made by Peanut Proud, is included in these initial shipments due to arrive the end of this week or early next. In addition, the National Peanut Board (NPB) has just approved a hefty donation of $10,000 for disaster relief to Peanut Proud, where one pallet of peanut butter is worth roughly $1,450. Bob Parker, President & CEO of NPB, said, “Our board members have supported relief efforts carried out by Peanut Proud since its inception. Peanut Proud has taken the industry lead in getting peanut butter and peanuts to natural disaster victims efficiently, economically and quickly. The National Peanut Board wholeheartedly supports this industry effort to help people in need with nutritious, shelf-stable peanut products.”
A delivery of 10 pallets of peanut butter is scheduled to arrive at the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency tomorrow, with an additional 10 pallets following next week. Speaking of the peanut industry’s quick and collaborative response, Malcolm Broome, Executive Director of the Mississippi Peanut Growers Association, said, “The Mississippi Peanut Growers are pleased to team with Peanut Proud to provide an ideal food that is nutritious and doesn’t need to be kept refrigerated and [can be] easily made into sandwiches to help those who have lost their homes during the tornado outbreak across our state.”
