In the wake of Mayor Greg Hobbs’ suspension by Governor Kemp, the City of Thomasville City Council is taking applications to temporarily fill the Council Seat for District 1. The Thomasville City Charter calls for the Mayor to be elected from the City Council every two years. Hobbs represented District One and was elected to serve as the City’s Mayor until January 2020.
In light of his recent indictment, Governor Brian Kemp commissioned a panel to determine whether or not Hobbs should continue to serve as the town’s mayor. As a result of those findings, Governor Kemp suspended Hobbs until the legal matter is resolved or until his term ends, whichever occurs first.
On Tuesday (April 16), the City of Thomasville announced a call for applications to fill the vacant council seat. Eligible applicants will be reviewed by the City Council and a temporary replacement will be chosen.
The City of Thomasville is now accepting applications to fill the temporary vacancy that exists on the Thomasville City Council. The vacancy was created after Governor Brian Kemp issued an order on March 25, 2019, suspending Mayor Greg Hobbs from office. Applicants must be a current and continuous resident in District 1 since August 21, 2017. Other criteria for appointment include:
