Football: BHS Bearcats Travel to Stockbridge with a Shot at the State Title on the Line

Coach Jeff Littleton and the Bainbridge Bearcat Football team will travel to Stockbridge to take on the 12-1 Tigers this week.  The winner will advance to the State Championship game, played in Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Cats (8-5) are in the Semifinals for the first time since 2015 and defeated perennial powerhouse Buford 23-20 last Friday night to advance.  Last Friday night’s win against Buford was more than just a seasonal upset – the Bearcats snapped the Bears’ 35 game home playoff win streak and on Wednesday, Buford parted ways with Head Coach John Ford.  This is the second time the Bearcats have played in the semifinals under Coach Littleton, with the last game ending in a loss to eventual state champion Cartersville.

Stockbridge finished the regular season with a 9-1 record, losing only to region champion Dutchtown 21-14 back in October.  Dutchtown lost to Rome last Friday night in the State Quarterfinals.  Stockbridge is led by Head Coach Kevin Whitley, who is in his tenth season at Stockbridge, boasting a record of 160-54 with seven region championships.  Coach Jeff Littleton is in his 7th season as a Head Coach (all with Bainbrige) boasting a record of 45-27 and one region championship.  With a win Friday night at Stockbridge, the Bearcats will play in the State Championship game for the first time since 1982 when Head Coach Ralph Jones led the Cats to the only State Championship in school history.
