A number of recognitions were presented to officers at the first-ever Bainbridge Public Safety awards ceremony. The ceremony, which was attended by many of the officers’ family members, was held after the Bainbridge City Council meeting on Tuesday night.
The Officer of the Year award, which was selected by a community-led committee, was given to Captain Mark Esquivel, an 11-year veteran who has spent most of that time as an investigator. Public Safety Director Eric Miller said Captain Esquivel identified and apprehended a suspect in a homicide which occurred on September 13, 2013. BPS Director Miller also presented special Director’s commendations to several officers for going above what was required of them to improve the department and serve their community. Also recognized were a number of officers who have obtained college degrees and completed specialized training.
