The University System of Georgia’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences announced the finalists for their 2017 “Flavor of Georgia” competition and several southwest Georgia businesses made the list.
Entries are judged on “technical aspects such as flavor, texture and ingredient profile. Also considered are potential market volume, consumer appeal and how well the product represents Georgia.” The categories include Georgia favorites such as barbecue sauce, beverage, jams and jellies, dairy and related products and more.
From the website:
“All finalists receive a one-year, silver-level Georgia Grown membership from the Georgia Department of Agriculture and a customized Flavor of Georgia logo for their label and promotional materials, along with the opportunity to pitch their product to grocery buyers and food industry professionals who judge the final round of the contest.
Category and grand prize winners will receive trophies. The grand prize winner will also be awarded an exhibit space for up to two registrants at the Georgia Food Industry Convention – a more than $1,500 value – and three consultation sessions from the UGA Food Product Innovation and Commercialization Center (FOOD PIC) on product or process design, ingredient functionality, sensory testing and/or shelf-life determination, a $1,500 value.”
Winners will be announced on March 21.
