Two Traffic Stops, Three Drug Arrests

Bainbridge Public Safety made three separate drug arrests over the weekend after a pair of traffic stops.

Saturday

On Saturday night, just after 9:00 p.m., Officers Jason Hayes and Jayson Myers were patrolling on Shotwell Street in Bainbridge when they observed a 2001 Mazda truck travelling with one headlight out.  After conducting a traffic stop, Officer Hayes identified the driver, Michael Edenfield, and obtained his license.  While standing at the window of the vehicle, Officers Hayes and Myers smelled what they suspected to be marijuana.  After requesting consent to search the vehicle and the person, a clear plastic baggie was located in Edenfield’s right sock, containing suspected marijuana.

Edenfield was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana less than an ounce and headlight requirements.

Sunday

On Sunday afternoon, at approximately 3:44 p.m., Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Akins observed a 1997 Honda Accord with a malfunctioning brake light.  After running the license plate through E-911, Officer Akins was informed that the tag was expired and had no insurance.  Upon initiating the traffic stop, Officer Akins observed the front windshield was badly broken.  The driver identified herself as Danielle Wolford.

Also in the vehicle was 24 year old Paxton Amilica.  When Officer Akins ran his name and date of birth through the E-911 system, he discovered that Mr. Amilica was wanted on a failure to appear warrant from Bainbridge Public Safety, as well as wanted by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.  PSO Akins placed Mr. Amilica under arrest and returned to the vehicle.

PSO Akins placed Wolford under arrest for driving with no insurance and with an expired tag.  Upon searching the vehicle, he found “a green and orange pouch containing needles, empty small baggies, a spoon wrapped in tin foil carrying a white powdery substance and a small blue baggie containing a white substance” (Bainbridge Public Safety Incident Report).

After reading Amilica his miranda rights, Amilica told Officer Akins that the plastic baggie with powdery substance was his, but that it was only rock candy.

After reading Wolford her miranda rights, she stated the pouch containing the needles, empty baggies and spoon were hers, but she hadn’t used in a long time.

Wolford was charged with operating a vehicle with no brake lights, operating a vehicle with a cracked windshield, no insurance, expired tag, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a drug related object.  Amilica was charge with failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance.  (Bainbridge Public Safety report)
