Details from Overturned Log Truck on Highway 27 South

Sowegalive.com has learned the details from the traffic accident involving two tractor trailers last week.  According to the Georgia State Patrol report, Damon Shawnta Pierce was driving a truck registered to Knight Forestry Transport, Inc near the intersection of Woodhull Road and Highway 27 South.  When he attempted to cross Highway 27, he failed to see a truck driven by Clinton Lee Thomas travelling in the south bound lane.  In order to avoid a collision, both vehicles steered away from each other and ended up in the west ditch.

From the Georgia State Patrol report:

“Vehicle #1 was traveling westbound on Woodhull Rd.  After coming to a stop at the stop sign on Woodhull Rd with its intersection with Ga 1 / US 27, Driver of vehicle #1 attempted to cross GA 1 and continue westbound Edwards Rd.  The driver of Vehicle #1 stated that he did not see another vehicle coming and began to cross GA 1 / US 27.  The driver of Vehicle #1 also stated that he did not see Vehicle #2 until his tractor was in the inside southbound lane of GA 1 / US 27.  The driver of Vehicle #1 then steered his vehicle to the left to avoid contact with Vehicle #2.

Vehicle #2 was traveling southbound on GA 1 / US 27 in the outside lane of travel.  When the driver of Vehicle #2 noticed that Vehicle #1 was not stopping, driver #2 steered to the right to avoid a collision.  Vehicle #2 left the roadway and traveled onto the west shoulder of GA 1 / US 27, and through the intersection of Edwards Rd.  Vehicle #2 then struck the south side ditch of Edwards Rd. with its front end causing the vehicle to overturn.  Vehicle #2 came to final rest on its left side facing southwest.

Contact was not made between Vehicle #1 or Vehicle #2, did damage some guide wires belonging to Georgia Power, and a church sign belonging to Saint Thomas Missionary Baptist Church during the crash.”

The accident occurred last Friday (2/12) around 3:20 p.m.
