Thomas County Central tops Colquitt County after late-game error

The Thomas County Central Lady Jackets outlasted Colquitt County on Wednesday after 10 lead changes, squeaking out a 6-5 win at Jackets Nest in Thomasville.

The Lady Jackets took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. An error scored Larran Carter and gave TCC the lead for good.

TCC senior catcher Payton Burton racked up two RBIs on two hits. She singled in the first inning and homered in the third inning.

Carter was the winning pitcher for Thomas County Central. She allowed four runs over six innings. Carter struck out four, walked none and gave up seven hits.

Colquitt County’s Bailey Howard ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.

The Lady Packers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A solo blast by Mary Logan Tostenson started the inning off.

It didn’t take long for TCC to answer as it scored one run of its own in the first, thanks to an RBI single by Burton.

The Lady Jackets pushed one run across in each of the third, fourth and seventh. Burton hit a solo homer in the third, and another run came on an RBI double by Kenlie Harvey.

TCC answered Colquitt’s top inning with two runs of its own in the fifth. The Lady Jackets scored on a groundout by Hannah Johnson and an RBI single by Victoria Parker.
