Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium
Built – 1924
Capacity – 100,119
Record Capacity – 101,851 (2012)
The Texas Longhorns call Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium home and on game days it’s quite a sight to see so many people, over 100,000, decked out in burnt orange and white cheering on their beloved Longhorns alongside their mascot Bevo, a 1,000-lb texas longhorn. Located on the east side of campus right off of I-35 in Austin, Texas, Darrell K Royal Stadium was renovated back in 2008 and added an extra 6,000 seats to get the capacity over six digits while also installing one of the largest video screens in the country, aptly names ‘Godzillatron’.
It’s pretty interesting to see where Texas Memorial Stadium began, as a dual purpose stadium with a track around the football field, and where it is today as one of the true gems in college football. The Longhorns are one of the name brands in the sport and it’s only fitting that their home stadium be one of the name brand stadiums as well.
