The Early County Bobcats have high hopes and Region 1-AA title aspirations. The Bobcats went 3-6-1 last season and missed the playoffs. This year could be the year they make their playoff return with a vicious defense and a senior quarterback
The Early County Bobcats have 25 seniors on the roster including quarterback Miles Norman. Coach Trey Woolf had good things to say about his senior quarterback, “Miles is a 3 year starter and the experience is starting to show. He’s asking good questions and absorbing the game better. We have a lot of seniors on this team that have taken their bumps and bruises. I feel like they’ve matured a lot. Good teams have great senior leadership, that’s my opinion.”
Even though the Bobcats have a senior quarterback, the offensive line is inexperienced. Coach Woolf added, “We’ve got to mature a little on the offensive line. We have to find what we’re good at. Hopefully we can run the ball because there are some fast guys out there.”
The Early County Bobcats defense is one to be reckoned with and is considered to be a top 3 defense in Class AA. “The team has been built around the defense for years and we want to keep it that way. We want to keep it simple so the guys don’t have to think and then we can go fast, tackle well, and force turnovers. We’re very talented on defense and I believe the defense can hold up while we get better on offense,” said Coach Woolf.
Early County fell short of the playoffs last year but that hasn’t hurt their confidence. Coach Woolf explained, “Region 1-AA is the same for us every year. It’s a tough solid region but if we make the playoffs, we always have a great chance to advance because we’re well prepared. We’re ready to see another color on the jersey. We’re excited for Irwin County and it should be a great game.”
