Racial wounds reopened after Grady County commissioners vote to keep Confederate flag

CAIRO — Scabs of racial wounds were ripped off during Friday’s special called meeting of the Grady County Commission to discuss the Confederate flag’s place at the Veteran’s Square surrounding the Grady County Courthouse.
After an unruly two hours of emotional statements by commissioners and residents, the board voted 4-1 to keep the 10 inch by 15 inch Confederate stick flag on the corner of the Confederate Memorial. Commission Chair LaFaye Copeland was the lone voice of dissension, voting to remove the flag.

Colquitt County changed their mind on joint funding of recreation department

MOULTRIE, GA. — Colquitt County Commission changed their minds and increased their contribution to the Moultrie-Colquitt Recreation Department.

They voted to increase their contribution to the recreation program by a little over $30,000 to $630,495. Read More (WFXL)

 

Man breaks dog out of pound

A purloined pooch landed a Norman Park man in jail Wednesday after he sprung the dog from an animal shelter where the dog was being held for a biting incident.
Employees at the Humane Society told police that the dog, Champion, was to go before a board to determine if he should be classified as dangerous after biting someone in the face.
