Track and field athletes from several Southwest Georgia High Schools will compete in sectional meets this weekend.
The top finishers in each region meet around the state are invited to a sectional meet, which features athletes from several regions. The top finishers at sectionals will get to compete at the statewide track and field meets.
Southwest Georgia high schools sending athletes to sectional meets this weekend include Bainbridge, Thomas County Central, Thomasville, Early County, Mitchell County, Miller County, Pelham and Baconton.
Bainbridge and Thomas County Central are sending athletes to a Class AAAA sectional meet; the Bearcats and Yellow Jackets will compete at a meet on Saturday at Carrollton High School in Carrolton, Ga. Albany High School, Monroe High School, Doughtery High School and Crisp County are also competing at the same sectional meet.

Early County and Pelham are sending athletes to a Class AA sectional meet on Saturday at Fitzgerald High School in Fitzgerald, Ga.

Miller County, Mitchell County and Baconton are sending athletes to the Class A Public Schools sectional meet hosted at Mitchell County High School. Calhoun County and Randolph-Clay High School are also sending athletes to the same sectional meet.

The Georgia Girls’ Track and Field meet will be held May 7-9 at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Ga. The Georgia Boys’ State Track and Field meet will be held May 14-16 in Jefferson, Ga.
