Early lead gives Syrupmakers victory over Pelham HS, 10-0

Thr Cairo Syrupmakers varsity baseball team jumped out to an early lead on Pelham HS and captured a 10-0 victory on Thursday at Cairo.

With seven runs in the first three innings, Cairo left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

A groundout by Cage Cox and a wild pitch in the first inning and a groundout by Sylas Bell, an RBI double by Cox, and an RBI single by Koby Pyrz during the second inning supplied the early offense for Syrupmakers.

Syrupmakers was led by a flawless day at the dish by Myles Knight, who went 3-3 against Pelham’s pitching. He singled in the second, third, and sixth innings.

Parker Duncan put together a nice outing. Duncan held Pelham hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out nine.

#8 took the loss for Pelham. He lasted just one inning, walked three, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

Cairo brought home two runs in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fifth. In the third, the Syrupmakers scored on a groundout by Harley Ponder, plating Bell.
