Bainbridge Middle School battles Thomasville to 2-2 tie at Centennial Field

BMS_soccer2When Coach Rick Lewis’ Middle School Bearcats soccer teams travelled to Thomasville’s Bulldog stadium for the first game of their season about a month ago, the Bearcats were shut out of a win.

This time though, when the Bulldogs travelled to Bainbridge’s Centennial Field, the Bearcats upset the Bulldogs’ dreams of another easy win.

On Wednesday night, the Bearcats boys soccer team battled Thomasville to a 2-2 tie, but could not secure the win.

Bearcat Angel Munoz, playing center forward, scored first with a long field assist from center defender Alex Soden.

Thomasville evened it up in the first half and then took the lead in the second half.

But Angel Munoz tied the game with his second goal, this time with an assist from fellow center forward Caleb Harris.

As time was running out the Bearcats mid-field led by Connor Christopher and Cesar Chiguil dominated the field and kept the ball in Thomasville’s red zone. Sadly, time ran out before a final victory could be won.

“I am truly aching inside that you did not get the win you deserved,” an inspired Coach Lewis said to his team at the end of the game, “But because of the way you played, and the spirit that you showed tonight to your town and your school, I am more proud of this tie than any victory.”

The Bearcats play again next Thursday, March 12, when Cairo comes to town. The games start at 4:30 at Centennial Field.
