The Bainbridge Bearcats freshmen baseball team beat Early County 9-0 in five innings on Tuesday in Blakely, Ga.
The 9th grade Bearcats had a six-run explosion in the fifth inning.
Bainbridge scored in the fifth on an RBI single by Bowen Dodson, an RBI single by Nick Barber, a bases loaded walk , and a two-run single by John Kirkus.
Mason Martin did his best to jumpstart the offense for Bainbridge, reaching base three times. He also drove in two runners.
Griffin Long looked sharp on the rubber. Long held Early County hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four.
Walt Burrell got the win for Bainbridge. He pitched three shutout innings. Burrell struck out four, walked one and gave up two hits.
The Bearcats kicked off their scoring with a second inning rally that saw one run cross the plate on an RBI single by Martin.
Bainbridge increased its lead with two runs in the fourth. A error scored Barber for the inning’s first run.
The BHS JV will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 21 vs. Lincoln County.
