Boating Tragedy- Ga DNR Press Release

On Saturday March 19, 2022, around 12:07 PM, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division was notified of a fatal boating incident that occurred on the Flint River in the area of the Boat Basin Park in Bainbridge, GA.  Upon arrival it was learned that a 2022 Xpress Center console boat and a 2001 Stratos bass boat had collided in the area of the Hwy 84 bridge on the Flint River.  The operator of the Stratos, identified as 43-year-old Jason Paul Davis of Bainbridge, Ga was pronounced dead at the scene.  The passenger of the Stratos, identified as 32-year-old Trey Faircloth also of Bainbridge, was taken to a local hospital.  The operator of the Express, identified as 48-year-old Eric Wilson Mitchell of Crestview, Florida, and his passenger, a 16-year-old juvenile, were taken to Tallahassee for medical treatment.  Both boats were involved in separate fishing tournaments that were fishing out of the Bainbridge Boat Basin Park.  At this point in the investigation, alcohol is not suspected.  The incident is under investigation and reconstruction by the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division’s Critical Incident Reconstruction Team.   The investigation and reconstruction are expected to take a few months for completion.  No other information is available at this time.
